The delicate tips of grass gently brush the air. It's a muggy, warm day, the kind that is best spent lying outside under the shade of some tree with your arms and legs splayed in the grass. I walked down towards a quiet area of the preserve, attracted by the line of rough wooden fencing. Approaching it, I spotted several creatures grazing on the rise of the hill in the pasture. They perked their ears at my approach, and I recognized them as painted unicorns. Smiling, I watched them move quietly over the grass, soon dismissing my presence as unthreatening. The eldest I recognized as the mare Eohippus. The second was the mare, Xir'alasta. And the third, Neth'ahtey, Xir'alasta's daughter. A shadow fell over me quite suddenly, and I looked up in time to see Karien, the fourth painted unicorn, pass over me, gambolling playfully in the wind on his outstretched wings.
