I stepped very cautiously, although it didn't look like the small den was an immediate threat. There were slight signs of habitation by some creature, and although many of the ones around here were friendly and no threat to me, I'd found it was always best to exercize at least a little caution around animals, if not only to show I respect them.

It took awhile waiting at the den entrance to see anything, but eventually, a small, young creature, something like a mountain cat, emerged from the den's entrance. She was light silver in color, with small blue swirls in her fur. Ears laid back on her head in an ironic reflection of my own caution approaching the little den, she peered around the outside world, nose quivering as she absorbed her surroundings.

"Hello!" I said as a way to attract her attention. I padded closer, my paws rustling slightly in the leaves on the ground.

She almost ducked back into the den, but then seemed to think twice about it, peering at my inquisitively. Her ears couldn't seem to decide where they wanted to be: plastered back against her skull, or completely focused forward, attention full on me. Eventually as she grew accustomed to my presence, she settled down on the entrance stone to her den, her purple eyes softly lit with a shy and guarded friendliness.
